Maximising Engagement
- Allowing time for familiarity.

- Being aware of sensory preferences and over-selectivity of any.
- Balancing social skills training and other objectives: always include an aspect of engaging meaningfully in all learning.
- The use of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) which involves breaking skills down (see next slides).
- Use of recording format: write down, video, graph progress.
- Use of prompts: can be verbal, visual, aural, demonstrations.
- The use of reinforcements/rewards: these are specific to the individual.
- Use of incidental teaching: when teaching one skill another aspect of learning can be introduced.
